ATI Restoration, the nation’s leading family-operated restoration company, was in steep competition with other buyers flushed with capital. The firm bet on storytelling to share their company values to help them grow their business. Confluence, the second book they’ve published with Esther K. Choy and Leadership Story Publishing, shares the stories of the first five restoration businesses to be acquired by ATI — from the seller’s perspective.
ATI Restoration asked Esther to write this book because they wanted a tool to help prospective sellers understand the journey involved in M&A, while showing these owners what it would be like for their own company to be acquired by ATI.
“There's tons of M&A books that could teach you the ins and outs of a transaction or how to prepare and how to exit it. But honestly, I think the hardest part is the emotional rollercoaster. It's the decision to sell,” said Jeff Moore, President and son of the founder.
The Moore family has been through a similar soul searching experience, so they wanted prospective sellers to know that they understand this complex journey. Without sugar-coating their journey, the five owners share why they decided to sell and how the process of acquisition ensured that their employees would have a safe and valuable career ahead of them. Confluence uncovers why selling their businesses to ATI Restoration has been “an amazing journey,” as Jim Bronson, owner of J&M Restoration described it.
The choice to use storytelling to lead the conversations about M&A is having a great impact.
In 2023, ATI Restoration entered nine new markets, added 30 offices, and welcomed more than 1,000 new employees to the company.
